Frequently asked questions
How do I get there from Quito?
Yanayacu is 3 hours by road from Quito via Papallacta and Baeza; Narupayacu is 4 hours, continuing towards Narupa. We can arrange private transport, quoted with your booking, or meet you at the bus terminal in Cosanga or “Y” Narupa.
What is the best time of year to visit?
Birding is good year-round. [Meses] are the driest months, and boreal migrants are present from [mes] to [mes]. Hummingbird activity at Narupayacu is highest [horario].
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes for lodging, groups and research stays — we recommend 4 weeks ahead. Day visits can sometimes be arranged with 15 days’ notice, depending on guide availability.
What are the rooms like?
Private rooms and dormitory beds, with shared/private bathrooms, hot and cold water, electricity and Wi-Fi status. Simple and clean rather — most of our guests are out at dawn anyway.
Can you handle dietary requirements?
Yes. Vegetarian and vegan options, allergies and early field breakfasts are all possible with advance notice. Tell us when you write so the kitchen can plan.
Do you host researchers and students?
Yes. We support fieldwork, thesis projects, field courses and internships with lodging, meals, transport, local guides and advice on research permits in Ecuador. Write to us with your institution and objectives.
How do I pay?
Bank transfer / cash / PayPhone]. We ask for a deposit to confirm dates and the balance on arrival; the amount is set in your quote. Institutions can request a formal invoice.
